We know tech. Not like some people say they know it, we live it and have for 37 years. Founded by Chris Tome, Adapptiv has a rich history of working with, consulting and/or working for, and consulted with Fortune 500 companies to help create products, specifically in the field of Computer Graphics (CG) hardware and software.

We have worked successfully with other non-tech related companies and brands in the past, but we’re going back home to California soon to focus on what we love and do best, working with technology firms. From consumer electronics to our specialties in CG technology, we have the tools, creativity, deep knowledge and boundless energy to drive your business to new levels of success.

We are Identity & Branding Experts

From the time he could hold a pencil (Yes kids, before iPads!) our Chief Creative Architect drew. Anything. When animation became something he realized people created (about four), Chris devoured anything to do with Disney, Warner Bros. etc. Upon seeing Star Wars at seven, he knew that film, visual effects, and design in general would be a driving force in his life.

Graduating with honors and a degree in Advertising Design from the Art Institute in 1989, Chris was well known at the University for teaching the computer graphics teachers and running the open labs at the school almost exclusively. For most of his time there, his PC’s were always far more powerful and capable than those the fledgling CG programs had throughout his years there.

Fast-forward almost thirty years and with Adapptiv, you’re dealing with a founder and company that has literally done it all at one time or another. From print to web, film to games, and broadcast to online media, we have created and/or collaborated to create graphics, corporate identities, print materials, magazines, game models, brochures, websites, and much, much more.

Experience comes with time, with success as well as failure. At Adapptiv, we have already learned the hard lessons, and studiously researched and taken the best of many disciplines to form our creative mantra. We know you’ll be thrilled with our results, and all we ask is that you embrace change. Change is good.

We Have Extensive Marketing & PR Experience

As far back as 1984, our Chief Creative Architect sold Macintosh computers with LaserMaster postscript printers to photo typesetting service bureaus and helped retool an entire industry in Florida. Moving into the CAD space selling some of the first x86 based AutoCAD systems at ProComp Inc., Tome saw the birth of the 3D revolution before it ever went mainstream.

Fast forward to 1994 and a move to San Francisco, our founder went from a successful job marketing and doing UI work at Xaos Tools to the sole promoter of LightWave3D on the Silicon Graphics IRIX platform. From there it was an extended five year gig at Miller Freeman / CMP Media as the Technical Editor for 3D Design Magazine and the Conference co-chair for the 3D Design Conference. With some of the most incredible people he’s ever had the pleasure of working with and learning from, he helped grow the magazine and conference to one of the most popular CG brands in the 1990′s and early 2000′s.

During that time, Chris also co-created the Guerilla Gallery venue at SIGGRAPH, which was destined to become The Studio, an official venue for more than 15 years at the annual SIGGRAPH conference. He also spearheaded efforts for five years at the San Francisco SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter, where he arranged for events like evenings with Pixar, Digital Domain, ILM, and many others. After defining the events and working with the speakers to prepare the monthly meetings, he could often be found serving attendees beer from the Sierra Nevada kegs that were a mandatory staple of any SFSIG event.

Through all these amazing times and others. Chris has worked on marketing campaigns; PR blitzes, events, sales and marketing materials, and consulted with Apple, SGI, Intergraph, IBM, nVidia, ATI, and a plethora of other CG industry heavy-hitters.

As an integral part of multiple print and online publications, Mr. Tome has provided creative direction, production, and publishing support services for companies ranging in size from Fortune 500s to dot-com start-ups. As early as 1980, we were creating BBS (Bulletin Board Systems) forums on consumer computers from Commodore and Radio Shack on 300-baud modems, and had to install multiple phone lines to handle the demand.

How much you want or need to know is up to you. We’ll provide the services, and if you so desire, we’ll even work to train your people how to do it themselves!

Part of embracing change is in knowing that one must create, then to some degree, abandon. This is a figurative abandon of course, we’re with you as long as you need us. What we mean though is that we’re always looking for the new, the change agents to work with. Just like open source software is more secure than closed systems, being totally transparent not only engenders trust, it encourages new thinking. As the founder of Adapptiv LLC, Chris created literally everything you see here. From the site itself, to all the graphics, video, animation, and copy. Immersed in computer graphics from a very young age, his degree in Advertising Design is nothing compared to the decades of real-world experience he’s enjoyed. He is well versed in many creative disciplines both analog and digital, grew with the Web when it was still ARPA/DARPA Net, and has a gift for promotion and marketing.
